Design of Tan Son Nhat Golf Course
(Excellent course close to the busiest airport in Vietnam)
One of Saigon’s most well-known courses is the public Tan Son Nhat Golf Course, which is 4 kilometers from the city’s center. The 36-hole course, which was constructed on 156 hectares, is located next to Vietnam’s main airport, Tan Son Nhat.
Out of the nearby flat area, Nelson & Haworth Golf Course Architects created a top-notch course. Every hole has significant soil mounding, several water hazards, sizable bunkers, and undulating greens. The use of paspalum grass on the tees, fairways, rough, and greens guarantees excellent playing conditions all year round. Modern in design, the Saigon golf course offers views of nearly every hole of Vietnam’s most populous city.
The city’s most convenient course to play on is also dependably in excellent shape during both dry and wet seasons. When it comes to course upkeep and playability, having four nines is a big benefit. Each nine is equally difficult and well-kept.
The location of Course A is distant from the clubhouse and near several condos, villas, and a hotel that is part of the property. The beginning of courses B, C, and D is the clubhouse. Off the tee, C and D Courses are more challenging than A and B. More strategic play is needed on courses than length and accuracy. The par-5 holes are lengthy and mostly windy. On the par-3s, stay out of the greenside bunkers to maximize your chances of scoring. Despite being on the slow side and having tremendous undulation, all of the greens are enjoyable to play. Although the fairway bunkers can be somewhat troublesome, a poor tee shot merits a penalty.
The A Course’s hole six is a standout on each nine. Water runs down the left side of the par-4, and fairway bunkers are strategically positioned at landing locations. A great drive is required to reach a green that slopes from front to back, so strategy is essential. The third hole on the B Course is a short par-4 featuring a fairway bunker and a dogleg left. Laying back off the tee allows you a full club onto the modest sloping and well-protected green.
The C Course’s final hole is a reachable downwind par-5. Two good shots land on the green. Avoid the bunkers 230 yards off the tee, as well as the stream in front of the green. The fifth hole on Course D is the greatest. This par-3 is played over water, so any mishit will be wet. The undulating green is challenging, especially if you’re putting from a different tier than the pin.
Services at Tan Son Nhat Golf Course
The Tan Son Nhat clubhouse is one of the largest in Asia and can accommodate up to 5,000 people for banquets, marriages, and other important ceremonies. The on-site restaurant delivers delicious Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, and Western food at extremely moderate costs, with Korean dishes being the house specialty.
Night golf is an intriguing element at Tan Son Nhat. Play continues into midnight, making it an ideal place to settle wagers or an alternative to Saigon’s nightlife.
Other amenities include a pro shop, driving range, chipping and putting sections, locker rooms, and changing rooms. Tan Son Nhat Golf Club is managed by the Vietnam Ministry of Defense. Golf carts are required and limited to cart roads, although fees are affordable and golfers may still stroll the fairways while caddies drive. Caddies are all male army recruits with a great service attitude but low English abilities.
